Swift Microwave Therapy is a new therapy developed in Scotland, used for the general treatment of skin lesions in Podiatry and Dermatology. Swift verruca treatment uses microwave energy which is administered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue.
Swift Microwave Therapy to treat Verrucae
Verrucae are warts which only appear on the feet. They are the result of a viral infection, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), and can be not only contagious but very difficult to treat. People who have experienced verrucae will know they can be painful and a source of embarrassment and can prevent you from partaking in activities you usually enjoy.
Until now, the most prevalent treatment methods have been cryotherapy or acid therapy. However, these can be quite painful and inconvenient, with the aftercare dressings affecting everyday life.
What will happen at my appointment?
An applicator tip will be used to deliver the microwave energy into the skin at a predetermined depth. The application is very precise and works by increasing the tissue temperature. As the energy travels through the tissue, water molecules in the body attempt to align with the microwave field, which in turn causes them to collide and create friction. The heat generated creates a very effective zone of treatment.
Once treatment is done, the healing process will begin. Treated tissue is quickly repaired, replaced and regenerated. As is par for the course with skin treatments, you may experience a small amount of pain or discomfort during the procedure. Previous patients have likened it to a scratch or an injection, lasting only momentarily. One of the most significant advantages of Swift Microwave Therapy is that no dressings are required afterwards. The area does not need to be kept dry, so you can resume your daily activities.
Almost anyone can have this treatment; if you are suffering from a verruca, why not give us a call or book an appointment with us, we can help you!
