Shockwave for Heel and Tendon Pain
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy, often referred to as ESWT or Shockwave, emits audible, low-energy sound waves to the injured area. This de-sensitises the nerve endings which often gives an immediate reduction in pain. It also causes controlled, microscopic damage to the tissues which encourages the body to respond by increasing blood flow to the affected area. The shockwaves can also break down disorganised tissue and calcifications.
Shockwave therapy is carried out by our degree-qualified, HCPC registered podiatrists at our sister clinic in Farnham and is typically used as part of a wider treatment plan for best results. This might include exercises, custom orthotics or low-level laser therapy, for instance.
